Project Considerations
Water securing project for Aquarevo estate development combating climate change and sustainable living.
The Aquarevo, a collaboration between South East Water and Villawood Properties, wanted to create a sustainable residential development of 460 homes in Lyndhurst, south east of Melbourne, with unparalleled water saving features. The water efficiency program aimed to secure and optimize water supplies for current and future residents by reducing demand on drinking water supplies.
The homes harnessed all water sources: drinking, recycled and rainwater. Stakeholders where trying to achieve 70% of water used on the estate came from rain harvesting. In order to create an incredibly sustainable development and combat climate change.
Amongst other water-efficient features, each home has a Rain to Hot Water System that screens, filters and treats rain water pumped back into the home for non-drinking purposes for toilet, water and showers, laundry trough and washing machines.
The filtration process of the Rain to Hot Water System required a gutter guard that would meet Australian AS 4020 Drinking Water Standards. The gutter guard filters leaves and debris before it reaches the rainwater filtration system and water tanks.
Each home must meet architectural styles including roofing aesthetics and colours and maximise the catchment of rainwater supplying the rainwater tank. Roof shapes with hips and gable roof forms, coastal skillion roof styles and higher degrees of pitch were encouraged for homeowners and architects choosing.
Housing types include single story and two storey complexes, built in stages across multiple sites during construction stage. The gutter guard installation needed to be installed during construction phases of each complex. before water harvesting system connection.
